$150Madrid has a number of mercados, or markets, which combine a farmers’ market atmosphere with small food stalls where you can get a quick snack or a full meal. Mercado de San Antón, in the Chueca neighborhood, is my favorite. Each market stall specializes in something different, bread, meat, fruits and vegetables, desserts, and more. As we walked up the short flight of stairs, my eye was drawn to this display of rice and beans. The shocking pink rice stood out from everything around it. Rice is something that we usually take for granted, it’s a staple, and boring to look at; but on this day, it demanded attention and took center stage.
