Madrid’s Puerta de Atocha train station is a marvel. It combines high speed rail, local commuter trains, and Metro in one modern building. Spain is not a place that forgets its history though; the old part of the station, iron, glass, and brick, is home to shops, offices, and an impressive indoor tropical garden. This was our first stop in the city after our journey from the airport. We took time to relax in the verdant scene before continuing. I wandered the large space, and as the sun looked in through the windows as it rose, I captured the moment from the opposite end of the station. The soft light and deep shadows allow you to take in the geometry without distraction.
